Welcome to my Blog!

This is a place for my students to ask questions and exchange ideas with each other and with me on the topics covered in science class. Let's go!

This blog is a great idea! One thing I would like to know is what students think about using laptop computers in science classes. Are there currently enough laptop computers? Are the current computers adequate? What suggestions do students have to enhance science using computers? Thoughts?

Attention Students: Extra Credit Opportunity!

To add 5 points toward your fourth quarter total submit (in writing) an answer to the following question:

Why is it that an organism that expresses a recessive phenotype is always homozygous for that characteristic?

Answers must be submitted to my basket by the end of the school day on Wednesday, 4/16.

Sangeetha said...

Using laptops in science is fun. They are WAY better than the pcs in the lab, plus we aren't always late for core two!
Also, they are pretty high tech and work fine for our needs. The only issue is that saving stuff onto the server doesn't always work out.

is there going yo be any more extra credit soon? Also whats a good way to study for the test? I need help I don't understand like any of it> HELP!!!!!!!

Mr. Froberg said...

You probably understand way more than you think! I think a lot of kids felt rushed with the one day of review. Hopefully putting it off till Monday will help. If you're still worried, email me directly (see my address on my web page).

Sangeetha said...

What is the largest organ in the body?
Is it skin?
That's what I put for section 1-1 notes organizer.

Anonymous said...

No offenses or anything... I mean I know you are busy being a teacher, parent, and a normal person but can you post more things up on your blog? I used to have a blog but then I got bored of it. You can make it like different colors and you can add stuff like a panel saying Today's Assignments and a little counter that's counting down until the next quiz/test. It's really easy to put all that stuff onto blogs. If you did some of that stuff I bet wayyyyyy more people would actually check out the blog.
Just advice.....
:)from somebody(:

Sangeetha said...

Did you think the test on Monday was hard? I thought it was easy but I got stuck on one mitosis question.
So... here it is.
What is mitosis?
a) when a cell divides to form two new cells
b) when a cell's cytoplasm divides
c) when the DNA duplicate
d) when the nucleus form two nuclei
*note* answers are not exactly in the same order as what was on the test.

On the exam, I chose A but I was having second thoughts about d.
Mitosis is both the name of the whole division process as well as a phase during the cell cycle.

Is is talking about this mitosis?

During Mitosis the cell forms two new cells with the exact same genetic information.

OR is it this mitosis?

Prophase,
Metaphase,
Anaphase,
and
Telophase?
?????

ALSOOOOO...
You said it was okay if we couldn't find a bunch of the information for the 1-1 notes organizer right?

Anonymous said...

yeah you weren't supposed to find a ton of stuff on the notes organizer and for the test i put d but it's probs wrong

Anonymous said...

I wish that you would post your notes organizers online so that if we forget to bring it home we can print off your site. Also, i think that we should do less note taking and more interactive activities. For example, last year in 6th grade science we went outside and took data of our jumping distance and compared it to or weight on the moon and stuff. We should go outside more!!!!

Sangeetha said...

At my old school, we exercised outside and then we measured our heart rate and our breathing rate and we did a survey to see whose legs and arms were hurting to find out when Homeostasis changes in people like after how long does it become unstable and does height, weight, gender, and the activity change the results. It would be fun.
OH and we did this lab about blood types where like there is a jar of purple water, blue water, red water, and clear water. The jars are representing the different blood types (without the Rh factor). The experiment is basically mixing the liquids together and if the liquid that is getting another liquid added to it does not change color, it can receive that 'blood' type. If the color does change, it cannot accept that blood type. Then we did this little data chart and then we put two and two together and answered some questions about which is the universal donor and like which is the universal acceptor. Also, we did a dissection of a pig heart!

Hi Mr. Froberg
Will core 3 have any more time in class for the scavenger hunt?

Mr. Froberg said...

Hey Gang,
I'm not planning to make any more time available in class to finish your scavenger hunt. If you're not done, you may want to use ACT time tomorrow, or arrange to speak with some classmates outside of class.
Good Luck!

Anonymous said...

Hi Mr. Froberg
Is it okay if the sections of the scavenger hunt is out of order and also does it have to be absolutly perfectly neat or can it have some words crossed out?

Anonymous said...

hi wat is the famous science quotation

P.S. I totally agree with you, Tanvi!

Mr. Froberg said...

Hey Gang,
Let me answer a couple of questions I've seen:
Your scavenger hunt does not need to be typed, but it should be neat, and readable. It's okay if the sections are out of order.

If you're looking for the quote - you're in the right place...look hard!

Anonymous said...

Thanks Mr. Froberg for helping me find the famous quote.

Sincerely,Eric S.

i am in your core 4 class i have a question about the brine shrimp do we have to draw the cups

Anonymous said...

Mr. Froberg,

What is the name of the paper we used to measure the salt on the triple beam balance?

Chris S.

Mr. Froberg said...

Hey Gang,
I'll answer a couple of questions I've been seeing regarding the lab report:
One diagram of the set up, showing the eggs in each of four cups would be helpful. I want you to practice using diagrams to communicate information about your lab.

The paper you placed on the balance to weigh the salt is just called weighing paper.

do the brine sheimp lab paragraphs have to be double spaced?

Anonymous said...

Does brine shrimp have to be capitalized in the final draft of the paragraphs?
-Alexa m. i'm in ur core2 class

Mr. Froberg said...

Response to capitalizing brine shrimp: If it's part of a title (example: Brine Shrimp Lab Report) it would be capitalized.

If it's just in a sentence (ex: The purpose of this experiment is to investigate whether brine shrimp will hatch in various concentrations of salt water) then it would not.

Hope this helps!

This homework due Monday is really confusing. I can't answer all of these questions just from that pic. Some questions I have are:

* In a convection cell, is the heat provided from the core?

* Question 2 just confuses me.

* Are we graded on this?

* I don't know what number six is??

* When heat rises up to the top of the mantle is the temperature and density decreasing?

* I don't know the answer to number eight

HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!!!!!!!

Mr. Froberg said...

Hi,
please carefully read pages 16 and 17 in your text to help you understand convection currents, and to help you answer the questions on the homework.

If you have additional questions, email me directly.

For the homework tonight (I know this is sort of late...), were we supposed to answer the questions on the sheet that you gave us during class? the ones that we had started working on with the slideshow?

Yeah, this is a bit late...

Mr. Froberg said...

Yes, the homework is to answer the questions in the organizer handed out during class, but using chapter 1, section 3 of the book. Remember, it's not due till Wednesday...

It was really helpful and i think you should have us take notes in class rather than doing notes organizers from the book. So just think about doing that. it makes a better study guide since it comes from our own hand. Afterall, WE know what WE need to take more notes on.
